Sam Seyong Um

Sam Seyong Um, percussion (Rockville, MD), is a member of The Percussion Collective, which recently finished its second season with a tour of the US and China. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Cite De la Musique of the Philharmonie de Paris, Shanghai Symphony Hall, and the Kennedy Center, among others, and has been presented by WQXR, Musical Masterworks, and Soundings: New Music at the Nasher. In the coming season, Sam will perform as soloist with the Oregon Symphony, Curtis Symphony, and Yale Philharmonia, and this coming season will perform as soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. As an educator, Sam has given masterclasses, lectures, and clinics at the Curtis Institute, Peabody Institute, Eastman School of Music summer program, and the University of Maryland. Currently, he is a Doctoral teaching assistant at Peabody. Sam earned his MM at the Yale School of Music and his BM at the Eastman School of Music. Sam is currently pursuing a DMA at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Sam is a Zildjian Cymbals, Pearl Drums/Adams Percussion, Vic Firth, Black Swamp Percussion, and Evans Drumheads artist. Previous Yellow Barn musician (2016-2018)
