Utopia/Euterpe/Dystopia

Past event (2013)

Centuries of technological development and the impractical dreams of impossible instrumental monstrosities that might have created incredible sounds have brought both the harp and the saxophone to their modern day incarnation.

Utopia/Euterpe/Dystopia, a work conceived by composers David Smooke and Ken Ueno, harpist Jacqueline Pollauf, and saxophonist Noah Getz, will consider how the harp and saxophone might have developed in alternative worlds where physical limitations of portability and practicality create little concern, where the deranged dreams of insane innovators can be brought to sonic life.

During this Yellow Barn residency, Utopia/Euterpe/Dystopia will begin to take its many shapes, exploring the possibilities of sculpture, movement and drama derived from an imagined history of perfect euphony and noisy failures.

Demonstration and Discussion
