Alex Nam, piano (Brooklyn, NY), attends Yale University as a student of Wei-Yi Yang at the Yale School of Music. He has won awards in competitions including the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Concerto Competition, the National YoungArts Foundation, the Hartford Chopin International Piano Competition, the Lyra Music Competition, the New York Music Competition, and the National Young Musicians Showcase. Most recently, Alex won the 2023 William Waite Concerto Competition, which will result in a performance of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Yale Symphony Orchestra in the 2023-24 season. He has appeared in programs at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center. Alex previously studied piano with Min Kim at the Manhattan School of Music Precollege and with Jinah Park at the Brooklyn Music Studio. His violin and orchestral studies with Kelly Howard and the Brooklyn Youth Music Project were an important musical influence. In the summer, he has attended programs including Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival, Kinhaven Music School, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Interlochen Arts Camp.
