
Andrew Harlan, composer (La Crosse, WI), is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in composition at The Boston Conservatory. He composes instrumental, electronic, vocal, and dance music. Much of Harlan’s work is influenced by his interest in literature and visual arts. His primary teachers while at the conservatory have been Jan Swafford (composition), Curtis K. Hughes (composition), and Marc McAneny (orchestration). While in high school, he studied composition with Christopher Frye at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. He has participated in master classes with Claire Chase and Louis Andriessen. He has received commissions from Shelly Mohr, Sofija Sibinovic, and Bryan Hayslett, among other soloists and ensembles. Harlan's works have been performed throughout the United States and several countries in Europe. His music has been performed and recorded by such ensembles as: The Boston Musica Viva, The Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and The International Contemporary Ensemble. He is also an active bassist and improviser with an interest in jazz performance.
