Becky Kalish

Becky Kalish, viola (Newton, Massachusetts), is a double degree student at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, where she studies with Peter Slowik. She previously was a preparatory student at New England Conservatory where she studied with Roger Tapping. Becky was a member of New England Conservatory’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008-2012, under Conductor Benjamin Zander. She subsequently was an inaugural participant in Zander’s new orchestra, the Boston Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2012-2013 season, which included performances in Boston Symphony Hall and a concert tour to The Netherlands. Becky won the Boston Trio Chamber Music Competition in 2012 and was a winner of A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition in 2011, performing with each of these ensembles in New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. She has been a member of Oberlin Conservatory’s Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, as well as Sinfonietta, under conductors Raphael Jimenez and Tim Weiss, and is currently studying chamber music with violinist Gregory Fulkerson. She has participated in master classes with Jeffrey Irvine, Joel Krosnick, Charles Castleman, and members of Chiara and Jupiter String Quartets, among others. Becky has spent past summers at Greenwood Music Camp in Western Massachusetts and has performed several recitals with her grandfather, pianist Gilbert Kalish.
