Colin Guan

Colin Guan, cello (Arroyo Grande, CA) is in his first year in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange Program, where he studies with Natasha Brofsky. Colin’s previous teachers include Yoshika Masuda, Jamie Kellogg, and Chenoa Orme-Stone. As the winner of the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony’s Concerto Competition, Colin was invited to perform Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with the SLO Symphony and Elgar’s Cello Concerto with the SLO Youth Symphony. His other solo appearances include NEC’s Jordan Hall, the DiMenna Center, and the Shalin Liu Performance Center at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival. He was formerly the principal cellist of the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony and a member of the Phoenix Youth Symphony. Colin also enjoys frequent collaborations with living composers such as Michael van der Sloot and Mary Bianco. Most recently, he gave the world premiere of Sofia Ouyang’s piano trio “Flick, Spark” in Alice Tully Hall. Colin has attended Morningside Music Bridge, the Orford Music Academy, the Pacific Crest Music Festival, and the Interlochen Arts Camp, where he was the assistant principal cellist of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has participated in masterclasses with Laurence Lesser, Hannah Roberts, Johannes Moser, Clara Kim, and Narek Hakhnazaryan.
