Eli Holmes, bassoon (Vestal, New York), has performed as guest principal bassoon with Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Orchestra Wellington (NZ). He has also worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Philharmonic. As a soloist he has performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra as a finalist for the PepsiCo National Young Artist Competition and won the Grand Prize at the Leitzinger International Bassoon Competition, where he was awarded a new instrument. At the 2021 Wakatipu Music Festival, in Queenstown, NZ, he presented a recital which was featured on Radio New Zealand. He has performed chamber music as a member of ICE’s Ensemble Evolution at the Banff Centre. Eli is currently studying with Ole Kristian Dahl at HfMDK Mannheim. Previously he studied with Richard Svoboda at the New England Conservatory, and with Marc Goldberg at the Juilliard Pre-College Division. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States. He holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Music from Harvard College, where he wrote for the Harvard Advocate and produced a weekly classical music broadcast for WHRB. He is currently based in Germany.
