Emily Wang

Emily Wang, violin (Scotch Plains, NJ), is a junior at the Union County Magnet High School in New Jersey. She has been playing violin since the age of four under the tutelage of Yousun Kim and currently Deborah Buck, first violinist of the Lark Quartet. She has also studied with Weigang Li, Duoming Ba, and Brennan Sweet. As an active participant of the New Jersey Youth Symphony, Emily has served as concertmaster and principal violist for numerous years. She has also served as concertmaster for various other orchestras and has been invited to play in the All-Nationals Honors Orchestra, Freelance Artists Ensemble of New Jersey, and Veritas Chamber Orchestra. She has received awards from competitions such as the the New Jersey Region II Concerto Competition, the NJYS Concerto Competition, the Bravura Concerto Competition, and the Summit Symphony Concerto Competition, among others. Emily has spent her summers at Kinhaven Music School. She was also with NJYS during their European tour in 2014, participating in the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, where the symphony received first prize in the festival’s competition. Emily has played in venues such as the Musikverein, Kennedy Center, both Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall, and the Wiener Konzerthaus. Since she was twelve years old, Emily has been involved in chamber music and currently serves as first violinist of the NJYS Quartet, coached by Milan Milinkovic and Philip Setzer. She received a scholarship for chamber music excellence from the NJ Art Council in 2015. She is also part of the NYYS chamber program where she plays in a piano trio, coached by Tomoko Fujita. In addition to playing violin, Emily has been teaching privately for the past four years.
