Jonah Cohen, composition (Farmington Hills, MI) is a composer, conductor, pianist, and cellist currently based in New York City. His compositions revolve around his fascinations with space, time, motion, and stagnation, and he strives to write music that is accessible yet unafraid to explore sonic realms that may be uncomfortable. Jonah has received recognition from National YoungArts Foundation, Foundation for Modern Music, National Young Composers Challenge, and many others, and has attended numerous composition programs and festivals, including Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Curtis Young Artists Summer Program. He has also had the privilege of working with such luminaries as Gabriela Lena Frank, Martin Bresnick, Melinda Wagner, Ellen Reid, and many others. Jonah is the Founder and Program Director of The NowBeat Project, a program which provides free performance and mentorship opportunities for young composers. He recently graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, where he studied with Dr. Cynthia Van Maanen and received the Neil Rabaut Memorial Composition Scholarship and the Young Artist Award. Jonah is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Composition degree at The Juilliard School, studying with Dr. David Ludwig.
