Maura Shawn Scanlin

Maura Shawn Scanlin, violin (Boone, NC), currently is a high school senior at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, where she studies violin with Sarah Johnson and is a member of the Jia String Quartet and UNCSA Symphony Orchestra. Her former teachers include Nancy Bargerstock, Jacob Dakon, and Nan Stricklen. In 201, she was the first place winner of the Charlotte, NC Young Artist's Competition (junior division), and appeared as a soloist with the Charlotte Youth Symphony. Since then, she has won numerous awards including the Charlotte Young Artists Competition (senior division), North Carolina ASTA Competition, and Asheville Youth Concerto Competition, which awarded her an opportunity to appear as a soloist with the Asheville Symphony. In 2012, Maura Shawn was selected to be concertmaster of the NC All-State Honors Orchestra and the NC Regional Honors Orchestra. Maura Shawn is a Junior US National Scottish Fiddling Champion and a two-time Open US National Scottish Fiddling Champion.
