Lauren Vandervelden, composition (San Francisco, CA), studies composition with Philip Wharton, and has also worked with John Adams, Kurt Nikkanen, and Jeremy Constant. She participates in the John Adams Young Composers Program. She is a National YoungArts winner, and her piano quartet was subsequently performed at the New World Center in Miami. She has received Honorable Mention and Finalist distinctions from BMI and ASCAP, and was National First Place winner of the Tribeca New Music, MTNA, NFMC, and NAfME competitions. The San Francisco Ballet School plans to choreograph Lauren’s piano quintet. Following a commission from the Ebb & Flow Arts Festival, her violin quartet was premiered by members of the San Francisco Symphony in Maui, Hawaii. Also a violinist, Lauren is a first violinist in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. The winner of several concerto competitions, she was the Concertmaster of the Boise Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for three years. She is a violinist with Musica Marin, performing with professional musicians to benefit Bay area arts organizations. She studies violin with Sarn Olivier, and Lauren will be attending the Juilliard School in the fall of 2018. Previous Yellow Barn Young Artists Program participant (2016, 2017)
