Julia Yang, cello (Tallahassee, FL), is a 2016-18 cellist fellow of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect and holds degrees from Northwestern University and New England Conservatory. From 2014-16, she resided in Miami Beach as a cellist for the New World Symphony where she also performed as concerto soloist, principal cellist, chamber musician, and solo recitalist. An avid chamber musician, Julia is founding cellist of the Merz Piano Trio and former Zaffre String Quartet, and made 2016 festival appearances at the Banff Chamber Residency, Centrum Chamber Music Workshop, and the Four Seasons Winter Workshop. Julia has recorded in the UK as a member of the 2015 Aldeburgh Strings, and in 2016, the Krzyzowa-Music festival broadcasted her opening performance on Polish television. As a soloist, Julia has performed recitals and concertos as a winner of numerous competitions including the New World Symphony 2014 Concerto Competition for which she performed sold out concerts projected on New World Symphony’s innovative Wallcast series. Julia has performed as principal cellist under conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Susanna Malkki, James Gaffigan, John Adams, James Conlon, Hugh Wolff, Leonard Slatkin, and Nicholas McGegan, and in distinguished halls ranging from New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center to Boston's Symphony Hall.
