October 2015: Putney, Baltimore, and Dallas
Yellow Barn Music Haul’s inaugural road trip was a cross-country journey that began in Putney VT, continued on to Baltimore MD, and concluded in Dallas TX. The Music Haul visited ten locations over the course of seven days, ranging from schools to neighborhood gathering places.
In Baltimore, with funding from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Yellow Barn collaborated with the Peabody Institute, Seawall Development Group, and OrchKids of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The Dallas performances were produced by the Nasher Sculpture Center, Yellow Barn’s partner of the past five years, and the final stop of the tour marked the opening of the 2015-2016 season of Soundings: New Music at the Nasher.
Yellow Barn Music Haul’s first traveling troupe, accordionist Merima Ključo, percussionist Ian Rosenbaum, and Rabbit Rabbit, the song-spinning duo of Carla Kihlstedt and Matthias Bossi, presented A Memory Palace, a program that looked at how we remember, sifting experience through memory in creating the elusive and poetic truth with which we define ourselves. (“Memory Palace” is a method of memory enhancement adopted in ancient Roman and Greek rhetorical treatises that uses visualization to organize and recall information.)
