Max Milian, piano (Brooklyn, NY), has performed in masterclasses on piano with artists including Renana Gutman, Alexander Korsantia, Gilles Vonsattel, and Yu Xi Wang, and on cello with Deborah Pae, Astrid Schween, and Nicholas Tsavaras. As part of chamber ensembles he has participated in masterclasses with the Horszowski Trio, Gilbert Kalish, Ani Kavafian, Paul Neubauer, Astrid Schween, Orli Shaham, and Fred Sherry. He has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, and the Howland Cultural Center. Max was a member of the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program for four years, and participated in the NYYS orchestra as a cellist. He was the 2019-2020 recipient of a Van Lier Fellowship through NYYS, during which time he provided public service performances and studied with composer and violist Jessica Meyer. He has participated in the Curtis Institute’s Mentorship Network, where he studied with Amy Yang, and has appeared at music festivals including the Interlochen Piano Intensive, Philadelphia International Music Festival, and Lyra Music Young Artist Performance Program. He has been lucky enough to count among his mentors Philip Lasser, with whom he studied composition for four years. Max currently studies with Brian Connelly at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
