David Fulmer, composer (New York, NY) has worked with orchestras and festivals in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Scandinavia, and Australia. He is the first American to receive the International Edvard Grieg Competition in 2010, and has also received the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award, the BMI Composer Award, and the Charles Ives Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Other honors include a special citation from the Minister of Education of Brazil for David’s series of lectures on music, the Hannah Komanoff Scholarship in Composition, the Dorothy Hill Klotzman Grant from the Juilliard School, and the George Whitefield Chadwick Gold Medal from New England Conservatory. David recently graduated from Juilliard where he received his doctorate, having studied composition with Milton Babbitt and violin with Robert Mann. He is a founding member of the Axiom Ensemble, and also performs regularly with the Argento New Music Project, Speculum Musicae, the Group for Contemporary Music, the New York New Music Ensemble, and the Second Instrumental Unit, an ensemble that he co-founded and directs. David regularly presents lectures on musical topics in the United States and abroad, with recent appearances at the Philadelphia Modern Languages Association Conference, International Society of the Arts, Mathematics, and Architecture, BRIDGES International Mathematics Conference, Banff Centre, and the Hildegard Von Bingen Society. He currently serves on the faculty of Columbia University.
