Jordan Bak

Jordan Bak, viola (West Hempstead, New York), is a student at New England Conservatory, studying viola performance with Dimitri Murrath. Prior to studying at NEC, he was a member of the Children’s Orchestra Society in Manhasset, NY. His previous teachers include Melissa Howe, Simon Shaheen, and Dr. Yeou-Cheng Ma. Jordan has performed at the New York State School Music Association, Long Island String Festival Association, and with the All-County Symphony Orchestra, earning the principal chair for both ensembles. He has also sat as principal violist of the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Molloy College Orchestra, Young Symphonic and Elite String Ensembles of the Children’s Orchestra Society, and Berklee Musical Theatre Orchestra. Other orchestras that he has played with include the New York All-State Symphony Orchestra and the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. He currently is a member of the New England Conservatory Symphony and Cambridge Philharmonic. An avid chamber musician, Jordan has performed in masterclasses conducted by Renée Jolles, Nicholas Tsavaras, Hsin-Yun Huang, and Mai Motobuchi. Jordan has also worked with several Film Scoring graduates of Berklee College of Music and was a member of the Berklee Scoring Sessions Project, playing for sessions at WGBH studios in Boston, MA, under Berklee composition faculty members George Clinton and George Monseur. Jordan has won the New England Conservatory Merit Award, New England Conservatory Music Scholarship, Berklee North American Scholarship, Long Island Music Hall of Fame Scholarship, Catherine L. Bowers Viola Scholarship, Ed Miller Memorial Scholarship, Joshua L. Brandon Music Scholarship, New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education Scholarship, and West Hempstead High School Outstanding Musician Award.
