Oliver Herbert, cello (San Francisco, California), began his studies with Iris Pingel and is currently under the tutelage of Peter Wyrick in San Francisco. He won first prize in the Felix Khuner Young Artist Competition, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Philadelphia International Music Festival Concerto Competition, and the Nova Vista Symphony Concerto Competition.
Oliver became principal cellist of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra in 2012. He has performed as soloist with the Prometheus Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Symphony Parnassus. Future solo engagements include collaborations with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Nova Vista Symphony, and a return performance with the Prometheus Symphony.
Oliver has studied chamber music with Kay Stern and with The Parker Quartet. He has been a featured recitalist at Dixon Stein in Chicago and will return for another engagement in August. He currently studies at the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts where, as a junior, he performed in the Castro Theatre as part of a celebratory concert for Benjamin Britten’s 100th birthday.
After attending the Yellow Barn Young Artist Program, Oliver will embark on a U.S. tour with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. He will begin studies with Clive Greensmith at the Colburn School Young Artists Academy this fall.
