Julia Schilz, violin (Cleveland, OH) is in her final year as an undergraduate at the Juilliard School, where she studies under Catherine Cho and Donald Weilerstein. A passionate chamber player, she participated in the Cleveland Institute of Music pre-college chamber performances for ten years under the tutelage of Peter Salaff and the Cavani Quartet, and has also attended the Taos School of Music, Perlman Music Program Chamber Workshop, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and Heifetz International Music Institute. In 2018, she traveled to Kolkata, India as an intern with Kolkata Classics, a Secretary of State Award-winning NGO which seeks to use music as a vehicle for social service and advocacy. She frequently serves as Concertmaster and Principal Second of the Juilliard Orchestra, and spent the 2022-2023 year under full-time contract with the Houston Symphony. Julia served as concertmaster both for the Rice production of Don Giovanni and for the opening gala of the university’s new opera center. In 2019 and 2023 she performed as a member of Carnegie Hall’s New York String Orchestra Seminar.
